Who We Are

Sinclair Community College

Sinclair Community College is an urban community college in Dayton, OH. Named   among the top 15 Community Colleges in the country, Sinclair offers an Associate Degree program, university transfer classes, direct-to-work programs, customized training programs in business. Enrollment is 24,000 students. These students include high school students taking      college credit classes, students continuing their education immediately after high school graduation, students returning to school at other stages in their lives, and life long learners seeking to expand their knowledge and experience. Students come primarily from Montgomery County and the surrounding area of southwest Ohio. However, there are also International Students who come from countries around the world.

We are a multi-faith center for spiritual life

Sinclair Campus Ministry is a multi-faith center for spiritual life that serves the students, staff, faculty and administrators of Sinclair Community College. We are open to people of all faith traditions and welcome seekers who are looking for support and/or challenge for their spiritual journeys.

We are funded by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and Dayton Ministries in Higher Education, a multi-faith association of local congregations.

Interfaith Campus Ministers

Two Interfaith Campus Ministers serve the campus community through the Office of Campus Ministry:  A Multi-faith Center for Spiritual Life.



Barbara Battin
barbara.battin@sinclair.edu

Barbara Battin came to Sinclair Community College in 2002. Previously she served in congregational ministry at six Presbyterian churches in Illinois, Minnesota, and Ohio as well as working in campus ministry at Kent State University and The College of Wooster. Currently a member of the Miami Presbytery, she convenes its Campus Ministry Network and is active in peacemaking programs in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Her other interests include the growing conversation between  science and religion, interfaith dialogue, nonviolence education, spiritual formation, service learning, holistic health and healing, leading retreats and prayer groups. She has completed the Certificate Program for Group Leaders at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and English, a Master of Divinity degree, and Doctor of Ministry degree in spirituality.

Jane Steinhauser

Jane Steinhauser has served as campus minister to the Sinclair Community for the past twenty-one-years. She is also the Director of Campus Ministry for the Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Her interests lie in spiritual growth and development, emotional health and healing, retreat work and ministerial formation. Professional active in the arenas of spirituality and creativity,
Art prayer and pastoral counseling, Jane is a licensed therapist and also teaches in the Lay Pastoral Ministry Program of the Archdiocese. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education, a Master of Divinity degree, and a Doctor of Ministry degree.

We believe that in order to thrive in higher education, a holistic approach to life is essential. The vast wealth of wisdom within spiritual traditions has much to offer to those on this journey. Our intent is to provide support to individuals of the Sinclair Community as they engage in their education or serve students.
